Dame Changer Unveils New Partnership with Creative England
Dame Changer has today announced a partnership with Creative England which will see two Australian women attend Creative England’s Market Trader intensive feature film development programme to be held in London this November and at the European Film Market at Berlinale in February 2-19.
The Australian participants will attend Market Trader with the financial support of Dame Changer’s Lottie Lyell Scholarship, generously sponsored by Stan. The Scholarship will contribute towards costs of two women attending Market Trader.
Dame Changer and Creative England share a commitment to developing innovative driven projects and supporting the creativity and passion of talented female filmmakers.
The Market Trader programme is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and support they need to understand the global film market, to plan and target their approach and come away from international markets with the best possible results.
Market Trader will be delivered through a combination of intensive workshops, mentoring, market attendance and networking with a specific focus on EFM/Berlinale 2019.
The programme will consider and contrast differing needs and perspectives from all parts of the film value chain – makers, buyers, sellers – and hone skills in pitching, negotiating and closing deals.
Dame Changer’s Heather Oxenham said: “We are incredibly pleased and excited to be working with Creative England on the next stage of the development in our international programme opportunity. This is our first international partnership, and we can’t think of anyone better suited or more closely aligned to Dame Changer than Creative England. Our organisations are bound by our passion for film and to drive real and effective change for women.”
Haley Edwards, Creative England’s Programme Manager – Content & Enterprise said: “We know that international markets are a great opportunity for film professionals to make contacts, show off their work and sell their wares. But we also know that without the right know how and understanding, attending these festivals doesn’t always yield the best results or end up being very cost-effective. The Market Trader programme aims to change that.”
Market Trader will take place between November 2018 and April 2019. Activities include:
- 1 day market preparation session (January – via Skype)
- 3 day guided market visit with access to mentor support throughout (European Film Market, Berlin)
- 1 day market review session to maximise the traction achieved at market (April – via Skype)
A panel of senior Australian industry figures and a Creative England course director will select the two Dame Changer participants. Dame Changer is looking for a diversity of voices, presenting original work with a distinctive tone.
To be eligible for Market Trader, a producer or director must be Australian based and have produced at least one feature film that has achieved a minimum of three sales outside of Australia and New Zealand. They should also have at least one other feature film project at a stage where meaningful discussions can be had at international markets.
APPLICATIONS OPEN ON THE 16TH October with a deadline on the 30th Nov. For guidelines and to apply, please go to: www.damechanger.com/market-trader
